New Netflix Show: The Alienist.  Recently on Netflix I have been watching The Alienist, a haunting 1890's drama set in New York City. The show follows Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, a criminal psychologist, develop his ability to solve crime by combining forensic science and human psychology. I find the show particularly intriguing as it incorporates historical figures into the story-line as active participants, e.g. Theodore Roosevelt. Furthermore, not only does Laszlo have to overcome criminals, but due to the 1890's marking the dawn of forensic science, he suffers pressure from the critical New York police department. The show merits flawless cinematography and set, paired with solid acting performances across the board, however, the story-line is perhaps a little slow and dreary, and somehow lacks the wow-factor despite its intriguing facade.
